Quality Assurance Standards
How we ensure consistent quality for every shipment
Canadian Maple Products Regulations
The gold standard in maple syrup quality
Canada's Maple Products Regulations set strict standards for maple syrup production, grading, and labeling. These regulations are enforced by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
Key requirements include:
- Minimum 66% sugar content (°Brix measurement)
- Color-based grading using light transmission at 560nm
- No additives, preservatives, or artificial ingredients
- Uniform flavor characteristics within each grade
- Proper container labeling and traceability

Canadian Federal Grading
Every drum is graded under Canada's Maple Products Regulations (SOR/2016-308), enforced by the CFIA. Syrup must measure 66.0–68.9 °Brix and is classified into four colour classes — Golden, Amber, Dark, and Very Dark — using light transmittance at 560 nm. Bulk containers over 5 litres carry zero tolerance for grade deviation.
Independent Inspection
Before shipment, every lot is sampled and assessed by an accredited third-party inspector. Testing covers density (refractometer), colour class (spectrophotometer), flavour profile, and absence of defects. Inspection results are valid for four months, and a Certificate of Analysis accompanies each shipment.
Food Safety Compliance
Processing facilities operate under HACCP-based preventive control plans as required by Canada's Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR). Critical control points include evaporator temperature, filtration, and hot-pack sealing. Facilities are registered with the CFIA and subject to routine audits.
Complete Traceability
Each 205 L drum carries a unique lot code linking it back to the producing region, harvest season, and processing date. Combined with our commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin, buyers receive an unbroken chain-of-custody record from sugar bush to warehouse.
Organic Certification
Certified organic syrup is available upon request, verified by accredited bodies recognized under the Canada Organic Regime. Certification is accepted by USDA NOP, EU organic regulations, and the JAS standard, enabling seamless import clearance in North America, Europe, and Japan.
Consistent Supply
Our sourcing network spans Québec's regulated production system, backed by the PPAQ Strategic Reserve — a buffer stock of over 100 million pounds. This mechanism guarantees supply continuity even in below-average harvest years, giving procurement teams confidence in multi-year planning.
